The Cover Memo
This Prezi exhibits my digital history throughout this semester. I stated as simply a "Writing Arts Student," someone who was required to take the class. I did not have many expectations for the course, since I felt like the topic of "technology in writing" had been engraved in my head since my first Writing Arts course. I was not expecting to learn as much about the different writing genre conventions, or to even think about using the things we were going to experiment with, in the future. I left this course feeling more confident about my WRITING skills, than I ever thought possible. I became a better writer this semester, not because of the immense amount of practice I had with actual writing, but because of all the outside skills that I gained.

When I created this Wordle image, I inserted the course description found on Professor Kopp's Weebly. After the image was created, I sat down and analyzed the words that were present in the Wordle image. There were a few main words that stuck out to me. I will list the words and then describe why they were so important to this course.
power: the power of the spoken, written, and performed word. This is something that was present in almost every assignment that we did this semester. I learned that the fact that you have the power to change someone's opinion, a false statement, or just teach them something from the words that you use is a great power that everyone has, and should take into consideration. I feel like the lesson of "think before you speak"
communicate: this word has so many different meanings now because of all of the ways we can communicate. However, this course further enhanced the definition of "the ability to get a message across to an audience." All of our assignments were for a certain audience, and keeping that in mind as you were creating them was a powerful boost that I needed, more times than not. potential: Throughout this semester, I have realized my potential as a writer. Writing is no longer simply getting your ideas out on paper. It is so much more than that. My potential as a writer has extended to so many more genre conventions, and I am so excited to see where my writing takes me. |
We have all heard the expression, "a picture is worth a thousand words." This is what I think of when I see this picture. While it might just look like a fun designed picture to you, it looks like the word "perpetual" to me. I walk around campus, and all I see are the tops of people's heads. There is no eye contact. no soft smiles being exchanged, it is people in their own world. And this is perpetual, unless changes are made. It is never ending, unless someone says "Look Up." Technology in the classroom is definitely a topic that is near and dear to my heart, and this course has definitely given me a lot to think about. I was somewhat aware of all the different genre conventions to writing, but never to the extent that I wanted to have. After taking Writing, Research, and Technology, I now have the knowledge of how to incorporate different writing genre conventions into my classroom, as well as use different technologies to gain and keep the attention of my future students.

This course has also further heightened my awareness of the things seen in this video, Look Up. While it is my job to teach my students how to properly use technology, since times are changing and they are becoming increasingly exposed to technology, it is also my job to foster socialization, to teach my students how to make friends, how to use their verbal skills to hold conversations with people. I refuse to let me students submit themselves to this kind of behavior, regarding technology. Look out, world. There's a new teacher on the block...
